Do your marketing with AI
Create a consistent social media presence, email newsletters, and marketing copy without spending hours on it.
Consistent marketing is one of the biggest challenges for small business owners. You know you should be posting on social media. You know a regular email newsletter would help. You know you need good photos and visuals. But it all takes time you do not have, and blank pages are intimidating.
AI removes most of the friction. Here is how to build a consistent marketing presence without it consuming your week.
Building a content calendar with AI
The first step is deciding what you are going to say and when. Instead of starting from scratch each month, use AI to plan it.
Try this prompt in ChatGPT:
I run a small landscaping business in Bristol. I want to post on Instagram three times a week. Help me create a content calendar for this month. Give me a mix of: completed project photos (I will supply the images), gardening tips for the season, behind-the-scenes of the team at work, customer testimonials, and promotional posts for our spring planting service. Give me a plan for each week with a topic and caption for each post.
You will get a full month's plan in one go. Then you batch the writing, spend an afternoon taking some photos, and you are set.
Writing social posts in your brand voice
The quality of AI social posts improves dramatically when you give it examples of your voice.
Do this:
- Find two or three posts you have written yourself that you were happy with
- Paste them into ChatGPT or Claude along with the instruction: "This is my brand voice. Write in this style."
- Then ask for the posts you need
The AI will match your tone rather than producing generic content that sounds like every other business.
Generating images with Midjourney
Good visuals make a real difference to how posts perform. If you do not have a photo for every post, Midjourney lets you generate professional-looking images from a description.
How to use it:
- Join Midjourney at midjourney.com (it works via Discord)
- Describe the image you want: "A beautifully maintained English garden in summer, lush green lawn, flower borders, warm afternoon light, photorealistic"
- Choose the best result from the four options it generates
- Use it in your post
The output quality is genuinely stunning. For backgrounds, lifestyle images, seasonal content, and anything you cannot photograph yourself, it is excellent.
Writing email newsletters
An email newsletter keeps you in front of past customers and warm leads. Most small businesses send one infrequently because writing it feels like a big task.
With AI, it is not.
Try this prompt:
Write a short email newsletter for my cleaning business. This month's theme is spring cleaning. Include: a friendly intro from me (Sarah), three tips for spring cleaning that homeowners can do themselves, a promotion for our deep clean service this month at 15% off, and a friendly sign-off encouraging people to reply if they have questions. Keep it warm and personal, not corporate.
You will have a newsletter draft in two minutes. Read it, personalise the details, and send it.
The weekly rhythm
Here is a sustainable routine once you have the AI workflow set up:
Monday morning (30 minutes): Use ChatGPT to plan the week's posts. Write the captions. Generate any images you need.
Once a month (45 minutes): Write your email newsletter using Claude. Review your content calendar for the next month and adjust based on what is coming up in your business.
As needed: When something notable happens, a big job completed, a great review received, a new service launched, use AI to write a quick post about it in minutes.
That is a marketing presence that would have taken a part-time marketing assistant to maintain. Now it takes you about two hours a week.
