What is ChatGPT?

What it's actually good for

Research with web browsing. ChatGPT Plus can browse the web in real time, so you can ask it about current events, recent prices, competitors, market trends. This is a big deal.

Everyday writing tasks. Emails, social posts, blog outlines, scripts. ChatGPT handles all of it quickly and well.

Image generation (DALL-E). Ask ChatGPT to create images and it'll produce them using DALL-E. Useful for social media visuals, mock-ups, marketing materials.

Data analysis. Upload a spreadsheet and ask questions about it. ChatGPT can spot trends, produce summaries, even generate charts.

GPT-4o vs the free version

The free version uses older models. GPT-4o (available with Plus) is significantly better: faster, smarter, and with web access. If you're using ChatGPT seriously, Plus is worth it.

What's coming in 2026

Update March 2026: GPT-5.3 Instant made ChatGPT significantly more direct and less prone to unnecessary refusals and disclaimers. If you found earlier versions overly cautious or hedged in their responses, this update is a meaningful improvement. Better for professional and business use.

OpenAI is working on something bigger than a chat interface. As of early 2026, the company is consolidating ChatGPT, Codex, and its Atlas browser project into a single super app. The goal is to bring conversation, coding, and web browsing into one unified tool rather than three separate products.

ChatGPT Write Actions

ChatGPT can now take actions inside Google and Microsoft accounts. As of March 2026, Plus and Teams users can ask ChatGPT to draft emails in Gmail, create Google Docs and Sheets, schedule calendar meetings, and work inside Microsoft Office apps. This is a significant step beyond just answering questions. ChatGPT can now actually do things on your behalf.
