Anthropic Adds Web Search to Claude, Making It More Useful for Business Research
Anthropic has given Claude the ability to search the web in real time, allowing it to answer questions with up-to-date information instead of relying on older training data.
Claude Can Now Search the Web
Anthropic has added real-time web search to Claude, its AI assistant. This means Claude can now look up current information when answering your questions, rather than being limited to what it learned during training.
Why This Is a Big Deal
One of the biggest limitations of AI assistants has been that their knowledge has a cut-off date. Ask about recent news, current prices, or new regulations and you would often get outdated or incorrect answers.
With web search enabled, Claude can now pull in fresh information to support its responses. This makes it much more useful for tasks like:
- Market research and competitor analysis
- Checking current pricing or product availability
- Summarising recent industry news
- Researching suppliers or partners
How It Works
When you ask Claude a question that requires current information, it will automatically decide whether to search the web. It then reads relevant pages and incorporates that information into its answer, with sources cited so you can verify the information.
Who Gets Access
Web search is rolling out to Claude Pro subscribers first, with availability on the API for developers following shortly after. Business and Team plan users will also get access.
Practical Uses for Business Owners
This update makes Claude a genuinely useful research assistant rather than just a writing tool. You can now ask it to summarise what competitors have announced recently, check current market conditions, or pull together information on a new topic without switching between multiple tabs.
If you already use Claude, look for the search toggle in your interface over the next few days.
