Google Brings AI to Maps and Expands Gemini Across All Workspace Apps
Google has launched Ask Maps — a natural language AI interface for Google Maps — while expanding Gemini tools across Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive.
Google has significantly expanded its AI footprint for business users, launching Ask Maps and rolling out Gemini AI capabilities across the full Google Workspace suite.
Ask Maps lets users describe what they're looking for in plain language — "find me a quiet meeting space near Shoreditch with parking" — and get intelligent, contextual results rather than a list of pins. For businesses that rely on location data or run operations across multiple sites, this could meaningfully change how teams use Google Maps day to day.
On the Workspace side, Gemini is now available across Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, and Drive — with tools designed to help with writing, data analysis, presentation creation, and file search. The update is particularly relevant for small businesses that live in Google Workspace and want AI assistance without switching to a separate tool.
Key new Workspace capabilities include:
- AI-assisted writing and summarisation in Docs and Gmail
- Formula generation and data insights in Sheets
- Slide building from outlines in Presentations
- Natural language search across your entire Drive
These features are rolling out on Business and Enterprise Workspace tiers. For SMEs already paying for Google Workspace, the question is no longer whether to adopt AI — it's already built in.
