Claude is made by Anthropic, a company founded by former OpenAI researchers who wanted to build AI that was safer and more reliable. That founding philosophy shows in the product. Claude is careful, nuanced, and unusually honest about what it does not know.
Why writers love it
Ask a room full of professional writers, marketers, and business communication specialists which AI they prefer and most will say Claude. The reason is simple: it writes better.
ChatGPT produces competent prose. Claude produces prose that actually sounds like it was written by someone who cares. It has a better ear for tone, more sensitivity to nuance, and a tendency to produce writing that does not need heavy editing afterwards.
If you are writing proposals for clients, emails to important contacts, or anything that will represent your business publicly, Claude is worth trying side by side with whatever you are currently using. The difference is often striking.
Handling long documents
Claude has one of the largest context windows of any AI, meaning it can handle very long inputs. You can paste in a lengthy lease agreement, a detailed brief, a supplier contract, or a long report, and Claude will read and work with the entire thing.
This is a real practical advantage. Many AI tools lose track of what you said earlier in a conversation. Claude holds more in memory and stays consistent throughout.
What's new
April 2026: Claude Opus 4.6 is Anthropic's current flagship model and currently ranks as the top-scoring AI on independent benchmarks. It is particularly strong on agentic tasks — multi-step work involving tools, research, and autonomous execution. If you are exploring AI agents for your firm, Opus 4.6 is the model to benchmark against.
March 2026: The one million token context window is now fully live for all Claude users, including the free tier. This was previously available in limited form to Pro subscribers. As of 13 March 2026, all users can take advantage of it at no extra cost. If you need to work with very large documents, entire contracts, or lengthy transcripts, Claude can now handle them in full.
Honest about its limitations
One of Claude's distinguishing qualities is how it handles uncertainty. Where ChatGPT sometimes confidently states something wrong, Claude tends to flag when it is not sure. It will tell you it cannot verify something, or that you should check a fact independently. For business use, where acting on wrong information has real consequences, this matters.
Where it falls short
The free tier does not include web browsing, which means Claude works from its training data alone. If you need current information, you will need to paste relevant content in yourself or pay for the Pro plan.
Claude also has fewer third-party integrations than ChatGPT. The ecosystem around it is growing, but if you need to connect AI to lots of other tools and workflows, ChatGPT or dedicated automation platforms like Zapier may serve you better.
Pricing
Free: Solid access to Claude, enough to get a feel for it. Pro: £18/month. Higher usage limits, priority access during busy periods, early access to new features.
Who should use it
Anyone who writes a lot and cares about quality. Business owners who regularly produce proposals, reports, or important client communications. Anyone processing long documents who needs an AI that will not lose the thread. If writing quality matters to your business, Claude is the one to try.
